Our Mission

Our mission is to provide accessible, culturally informed, and compassionate mental health care for children, adolescents, and families.

We specialize in school-based psychological services, supporting students in navigating academic, emotional, and social challenges. Our team partners closely with educators and families to foster environments where young people can thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

We are deeply committed to serving inner-city communities, offering trauma-informed care that recognizes the unique stressors and systemic barriers these populations may face. Our team incorporates a strengths-based approach, emphasizing resilience and empowerment in every session.

Additionally, we hold strong, respectful partnerships with Indigenous communities, providing culturally sensitive counselling that honours traditional knowledge, identity, and community values. We work collaboratively to ensure our services align with the needs and customs of the people we serve.

At HEALthy MiND Centres, we believe every individual deserves to be heard, respected, and supported in their journey toward mental wellness.

A HEALthy Range of Therapy Options

HEALthy MiND selects from many techniques and approaches to understand and address our clients behavior and mental processes.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, also referred to as ACT, is a psychotherapeutic approach that embraces the belief that negative emotions and events are not to be “avoided” or “fixed”, but experienced and accepted as a natural part of life. ACT focuses on learning to accept our emotions and developing healthier, appropriate responses to our environment.

Attachment theory stems from the research of John Bowlby, who believed that our emotional and psychological well-being as adults was determined by our very first relationships with our caregivers as infants. The goal of Attachment Theory Therapy is to form a healthy, open, and trusting alliance between client and therapist to aid in forming other healthy relationships and treating anxiety or depression.

Paramount to the Client-Centered therapeutic approach is the belief that every person is unique, and with the assistance of a compassionate therapist, is capable of identifying and enacting meaningful and appropriate changes in their life. This approach focuses on the client-led process of self-discovery, with the therapist supporting in the journey.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is based on the belief that our cognitions (or thoughts) impact our behaviour (the way we act). This approach helps clients by challenging their negative beliefs, and replacing them with healthier alternatives in order to ameliorate emotional and psychological symptoms.

Cognitive Processing Therapy is an off-branch of Cognitive Behavioural therapy focusing on the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder symptoms. The goal of CPT is to reduce traumatic symptoms by challenging the client’s negative and maladaptive beliefs about the trauma. By reframing unhelpful thoughts about the trauma, the client is able to understand and view the trauma from a new perspective, thus reducing symptoms of PTSD.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy offers more structure to the therapeutic process than other approaches. With a heavy emphasis on psychoeducation, DBT provides skills to help the client navigate and manage both their social and psychological environment. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy views health as a dynamic process that is constantly changing and can be molded through the dialogue between client and therapist.

Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) emphasizes that emotions are vital for personal growth, healing, and decision-making. Since avoiding or lacking awareness of difficult emotions can harm mental health and relationships, EFT guides individuals to increase emotional awareness, understand their origins, and use them constructively.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, or EMDR, is a technique used by therapists in the treatment of PTSD. It makes use of the quick lateral eye movements that occur while we sleep. This is done in conjunction with recalling a traumatic event in order to reduce anxiety, avoidance, and fear of the event, allowing it to be discussed in therapy.

The Gottman Method is a form of therapy used by therapists for couples experiencing conflict. The Gottman Method utilizes the therapeutic environment to educate couples on how to improve their communication, increase positive interactions, intimacy, reliance, and teach healthy ways to approach conflict in the relationship. The Gottman Method also educates couples on how to heal relationships after conflicts occur.

Internal Family Systems therapy, or IFS, brings a unique view of human personality and emotions. IFS therapy believes that each person has many “families” within their mental system, containing both painful/emotional families, and protective families. The goal of IFS therapy is to heal the painful families and improve the dynamics between internal states in order to avoid strife between the systems.

Narrative therapy aims to empower clients to make changes in their thoughts and actions by separating themselves from their experiences by viewing negative experiences as narratives, or storylines. Narrative therapy is a future-oriented approach that focuses on changing current cognitions in order to change narratives to better match the client's goals.

Play therapy assists children in learning healthy ways to express their emotions and behaviours through explorative play with and modelling by the therapist. This approach uses play as its primary communication tool, allowing kids to express feelings, resolve issues, and develop skills in a safe, guided environment with a trained therapist, treating it as their natural language. Instead of talking about difficult subjects, children use toys, games, and creative materials to act out experiences, process trauma, build self-awareness, and learn healthier behaviors

Solution Focused Therapy, or SFT, is an approach that prioritizes coaching clients towards finding solutions to overcome current obstacles and pursue their goals for the future. The role of the therapist in this approach is to guide the client towards finding their own appropriate solutions for issues in their life. SFT has been shown to be an effective form of therapy in a variety of behavioural and psychological outcomes.
